Close call: Colin Gregor seals the deal for Scotland A
Scotland A booked their place in the Churchill Cup Final with a tense 27-24 victory over Argentina A in Ontario on Wednesday.
It was the Argentinian side's first game of the tournament and they came close to upsetting Scotland, although in the end four tries from Rob Moffat's side was enough to see them home.
Man of the match Rob Dewey was at the heart of all good things and after quarter of an hour he was on hand to create a try for Andrew Turnbull with an audacious behind-the-back pass.
Dewey then crossed for a try of his own ten minutes later when he showed good power to hold off three defenders to cross under the posts. Argentina hit back on the stroke of half time, scoring through full-back Lucas Barrera Oro.
A second try for Argentina, this time through Gonzalo Comacho, shortly after the break had Scotland a little shaky but several changes in personnel ensured they regained their composure.
Scotland were rewarded for a period of concerted pressure when Jim Thompson scored a sensational individual try that replacement fly-half Gordon Ross converted. Colin Gregor soon added the fourth and despite two late tries from Argentina they managed to hold on for the victory that sends them into the final.
"First and foremost it was a good win. I thought we played some good rugby and scored four good tries," Scotland A coach Moffat said.
"It was a pretty good performance in the first half, but we let it slip away a bit when Argentina came back into the game. The same happened against Canada so it's something we're going to have to rectify for the final," Rob Dewey added.
