Scotland full-back Hugo Southwell believes the must-win Test against Argentina on Saturday will be decided at the breakdown and in the pace of their play.

Southwell was handed a recall to the starting XV by head coach Frank Hadden, as the Scots seek to make amends for last weekend's 21-15 defeat to the team who ended their World Cup campaign.

Hadden stressed after the match in Rosario that the Scots had made crucial errors in the contact area, and they have been working to solve the problem ahead of a match which will determine whether they have a chance of finishing the year in the top eight of the world rankings.

"We had a big discussion about it - how things didn't quite go well," Southwell said.

"We wanted to go in with a more expansive game. The Pumas did very well but at the same time there were opportunities there for us to exploit.

"Last weekend, we had too many people in the breakdown when we needed to have less there.

"The key is getting the right people in the right places to make sure that we have the correct numbers to break down the Pumas defence.

"It is important to get the continuity going, putting in good work in the breakdown to secure the ball and playing a quicker game.

"If we get more our pace to the game that will help us to reach the tempo needed to trouble the Pumas.

"They let us play but at the same time we didn't react well. Now we are trying to do thing differently."

The 28-year-old, born in England, is determined to see Argentina beaten in the same manner as the hosts inflicted Saturday's defeat on the Scots.

"I'm certain that we can ensure a victory," he said. "We didn't play the kind of rugby we wanted in the first match and we are looking forward to doing exactly what they did to us."
