Bad break: Walder's sabbatical in New Zealand is off
Wasps fly-half Dave Walder has been ruled out of action for three months after undergoing surgery to rectify a fractured fibula in his left leg.
Walder fractured his left fibula in Wasps' 49-12 victory over Worcester on Saturday and had to have the fracture pinned during the operation.
Due to the nature of the injury Walder will not be able to bear weight on the leg for six to eight weeks and after that will require extensive physiotherapy to complete the rehabilitation.
The period out with the injury means Walder will not be able to travel to New Zealand, where he was set to play for North Harbour in the Air New Zealand Cup.
"We are all very disappointed for Dave, especially as he has been playing probably the best rugby of his career in recent months," said Wasps boss Ian McGeechan.
"With an 85 per cent return on his goal-kicking in addition to his form with ball in hand, his loss is clearly a blow to us as we face the run-in to the end of the season."
