The Falcons are flying again

The Falcons are back in training, with a full squad, after it was confirmed on Thursday that the union had been saved from possible bankruptcy by a new investor.

The Falcons, who revealed earlier this week that they would not be paying any of their players for the months of November and December in order to avoid insolvency, were in danger of losing the majority of their players.

However, coach Rudy Joubert confirmed to rugby365.com that the players were back in training.

"It's good news that we can now carry on as a union," he said.

"The Board of Directors are in the final stages of negotiation with the new investor, but everything is set to go ahead... so we are back in training as of 9am tomorrow [Friday].

"None of our players have left and our pre-season is still on track," he added.

Joubert also revealed that the Falcons had a number of pre-season fixtures lined up, including a clash with Russia.

"We've got a great pre-season planned," he said. "We're looking at a trial game before we take on Russia on February 2, and we're taking on the Lions' Vodacom Cup side on February 9."
